Stage Two: Five to Eleven At this age children need to belong in the family, receive parental approval, master the basic skills of life, and learn to function with others. I want them to be loved and welcomed in their friends’ homes, and I want them to be likeable to others. So, I am going to train them to say “please,” “thank you,” and “forgive me.” I am going to teach them to share their toys [which they never want to do], and teach them to give their front seat to a brother or a friend [this is their first taste of unselfish love]. Scripture tell us, “If a man wants friends, he must show himself friendly.” So, I am going to teach and train them to be friendly, to have manners, politeness, and cleanliness.
