Transcribing: An Incredible Resource

One of the most unique things that CSN Books does is offer transcribing services to authors who have recorded sermons, lectures or interviews. Once the tape or cd has been transcribed, their editors complete an in depth review and sample edit of a portion of the transcription so that you can see how your book can be taken from the spoken word to book format. This is especially useful to pastors who have trouble finding time for writing . Your ideas are conveyed in exactly the way you want them to be with half of the work on your part. After transcription CSN Books takes the manuscript through all of the processes of publishing , including writing , editing , cover design and printing. At the end of the process it is near impossible to tell that it was never a book to begin with. The thing about CSN Books is that they offer unique resources like these for new authors to take the anxiety out of the publishing process.

Importance of proper typesetting

I have been asked about the importance of typesetting while publishing a book. It doesn't matter if the book is secular or a Christian book, typesetting can make or break a book. A well typeset book that meets indusytry standards will help in the marketing phases of your publishing adventure. It won't matter how well writen or what level of editing or proofing you recieved if you dont have your book professional typeset, it may as well be a paper weight.

I trust CSN Books with all my editing, proofing and typesetting needs. They are even great with cover design.

Promotion and Marketing

Book promotion is more difficult than writing or editing or proofing or self-publishing a book! What distributor do you use? Do you go on Amazon, or on another internet bookstore such as csnbooks.com? When you speak at a conference or seminar, do you bring books or refer the orders to your publisher, Christian publisher or secular?

I honestly believe there are a myriad of answers to self publishing or subsidy publishing questions. I'd be interested in your comments.

csnbooks.com

CSN Books has a pretty comprehensive website where you can find information about everything to do with publishing, from writing to printing. It can be extremely helpful to know a little about the process of publishing before taking the big step. Csnbooks.com can help.

Typesetting

We often don’t think about how important the design of the interior of a book is. A book that is poorly designed can be unreadable to some, no matter how great the content. CSN Books offers typesetting that is unique and aesthetically pleasing. It is done personally by a fantastic typesetter that knows not only the standards for a bookstore quality book, but also how to format a book so that it best presents the author’s writing . It is encouraging to find a company that individually works on their clients’ books so that each is unique and personal.

Inspired Words

Often I have to be reminded of how deep God’s love is. In speaking to people about writing I am amazingly encouraged by God’s never-ending inspiration. Books and writing go far beyond the world of publishing and printing and reach even the most unlikely people. People, who are in desperate need to hear His inspired words are expertly and precisely placed in situations to do so. It’s overwhelming sometimes, when we are reminded of God’s desire to speak directly to us, not only for our benefit, but also for the benefit of all His people.

Cover Design

Does anyone else get overwhelmed with the thought of designing a cover? In selling a book, cover design is crucial, but how do you choose a design that is right for your book? Simple or extravagant? Bright or subtle colors? It is difficult to choose a cover design that encapsulates the essence of your book. You want to intrigue the reader without revealing too much. Does anyone have any thoughts on the best way to go about conveying ideas to an artist? Or any suggestions on what types of cover they feel catch the most attention? Also, what are some ways that a cover can subtly and artistically display Christian ideals?
Does anyone else ever feel like artists are justified in being a bit, shall we say, ‘particular’? We laboriously pour over one piece of work for months, years, ages and then we are expected to simply turn over our creation, a product which we often feel a sort of maternal attachment to, into the hands of a stranger who has the potential power to alter and distort the purity of the message or essence, if you will, of what we wanted so badly to express to the masses. What happened to publishers who helped us through the processes of gestation and delivery? And when will they get with the times and give us an epidural already!
I recently needed help with some editing, actually, it was really ghostwriting (even seasoned writers need help sometimes), and I decided to seek, yet again a new publisher. I have had so many unfortunate experiences in the past such as changed context while in the proofing and editing process or yet another cover design that has been pulled out of the stock cover archives (and I paid full price!) You name it, I’ve gone through the pang of experiencing it when it comes to publishing and printing: ISBN mix ups, printing problems, subsidy printing problems, arrogant editors, pompous artists, impossible management, unattainable employees, etc, etc. So, as I sat down one Saturday to find candidates. I happened upon the number for a small, family-owned company that has remained somewhat cloaked for the past twenty years. There is a growing buzz about this publisher, CSN Books; the small company in California who has worked with prominent authors all over the world, but it is not until recently that this author came across their name. They were incredibly helpful in assisting me through the process that has before, put several gray hairs on my head. This time, however, was different…it was enjoyable and remarkably easy! It seems that I am justified in being a bit ‘particular’; after all, it’s my baby…
As a writer, I have become to find it more and more difficult to find good resources for publishing. I tend to be a more expressive and biographical writer, so my Christian faith is pertinent and resounding in most of my pieces. This poses to be even more of an issue; most legitimate publishers are seldom interested in helping someone who is so vocal about faith- they just don’t want their name or ISBN associated with such strong convictions, it could hurt their image or possibly offend other religious (or non religious) groups. My aim in publishing my pieces is never to offend someone, but simply an expression.
It came as a relief when I found a full service publishing company that helped me all of my publishing needs and holds fast to my own Christian convictions- although they do not publish strictly Christian material; just nothing offensive to the faith. CSN Books (or Christian Services Network) was able to help me with ghostwriting, editing, proofing, copyright, cover design, ISBN, printing, marketing and even subsidy printing if I so desired. They were extremely helpful and patient with me as I went through the laborious pains that oft come with getting something to print (although, I must say, working with them was perhaps the easiest time I’ve had yet because I honestly was able to hand them my work and they worked with me step by step to order, manage and complete my work). For any writers like myself, I would highly recommend this company. They truly do stand true to their slogan, “from vision to completion”. That is what they helped me to do- finally complete my work so I could get the message out.

Publishing Made Easy

CSN Books is a publishing company that fills in all of the gaps. If you are a first time author, it is easy to be overwhelmed by the ins and outs of printing, cover design, proofing, ISBN etc. However, CSN Books is an outlet for self-publishing that takes first-time authors through the process of publishing easily and clearly. A good way to examine how CSN Books works is by visiting their website and downloading their new "Before You Publish" ebook. It's free, and it's incredibly helpful.

Cover or Picture

There are authors out there who feel that a picture in the shape of a cover is the same a a professionaly designed cover. A cover professionaly designed requires a 4 layered file that is calibrated with a pantone chart and meets all the CYMK requirements of printing. A publishers knows a design on a computer will not necessary match the design when printed on ink. For further info on subject like cover designs, editing, proofing and publishing contact csnbooks.com and get there free ebook "Before You Publish".

Cover Designs and More!

Book promotion is still the hardest part of writing and publishing a book. It is more difficult than writing, than editing, than proofing, and even more difficult than the actual publishing.
There are several areas of promotion I have found that work well:
1) A great cover design helps
2) A willingness to go to local events and talk about your book.
3) Articles in your local newspaper.
4) Getting an agressive company to help you. I have found CSN Books is very good at this.
5) Talk about your book wherever you go.

Whatever you do, I wish you well.

Mike Wourms,
Author of "The Chosen Warrior" and "The J.I.L. Love Story" and "Riding the Edge."

ISBN is Important

The ISBN of a book is basically the signature of your publisher. You can always buy your own, the problem lies in the familiarity of the ISBN and publishing company. If distributors see it as a self-published book than it will be trated second class, if they recognize the publisher regardless if it is self-published it will get the attention it deserves. In short, having an ISBN isn't as important as who that ISBN represents.

Finding the right cover design can be as frustrating as writing the book. CSN Books helps tremendously by working with authors in not only publishing but also designing the perfect book. Who knew that there would be so much more to publishing than just writing? Concerns about copyright, cover design, proofing etc., are answered at CSN and the cover designs are exactly what you're looking for. It's hard to find an artist that captures exactly what you imagine!

Copyright mad easy

There are many ways to copyright your book and for most authors the poor man copyright meets the need of the average author publishing a book. The poor man version involves mailing a copy of your manuscript to yourself registered mail and not opening it; what this does is time date the manuscript and that’s all a copyright really does. In fact just having it on your computer is a form of copyright for it to time dates your manuscript.
Registering your book with the Library of Congress (LOC) is another and formal way to copyright your book. You just go on line, they will ask you to fill out a form called a short form TX, send in about $30 and two copies of the book. This process can take as long as a year for you to get certified.
The only difference between the LOC copyright and the poor man version is that with the LOC version you can sue for damages, of course you would have to prove it and pay the legal fees.
So in short, the poor man copy right works just fine and will allow you to make someone stop using your material with out your permission.

Remember CSN Books for all your writing, editing, cover design, printing and publishing needs.

It can be overwhelming as a new author beginning the process of self-publishing, but it doesn't have to be. Important Back Cover Ideas

Here's an important publishing tip - whether you are doing secular or Christian Book Publishing, on your back cover, make sure it has the following ingredients:

1) A description of what the book is about,
2) An "About the Author" section, along with a photo,
3) The ISBN # and the price and the bar code,
4) The price clearly stated somewhere other than the bar code,
5) Two or three endorsements from others - hopefully somewhat known in the field your
book covers.

Whether you use a Christian Book Publisher such as CSN Books, or a secular self publisher or subsidy publisher, these same rules apply.
