Pastor David Hoffman-Fear of the Lord
David Understood Authority
King David understood spiritual authority better than most
in the Bible. The Lord called David a man “after My own heart.”
David respected authority when he knew that authority came
from God.
In 1 Samuel 24, Saul was chasing David with 3000 of his
choicest men. They intended to kill him. Samuel had already
anointed David as king, so David and his followers knew it was
only a matter of time.
Yet, at the moment, David and his men were hiding in a cave
to escape Saul and his 3000 men. Here, God was testing David.
At the cave, Saul goes in to relieve himself, not knowing David
and his men are in the cave. At that moment, Saul is in a very
vulnerable position. David’s men encouraged him to “kill him
and you’ll be king.” David refused, essentially saying, “Far be it
for me to do this thing against the Lord’s anointed.” David
persuaded his men not to rise up against Saul.
